Filipino banquet dinner cause for celebrationDate Posted: 1999-04-24 The banquet was held in honor of members and officers of Filipino associations, special guests and friends who volunteered their talents and time in last year's Centennial Celebration of Philippine Independence. To date, the Centennial Celebration in Okinawa remains the biggest Filipino affair ever held on the island. The banquet was presided over by Dr. David Itokazu, who presented the very best of Philippine culture and history through music, dance, lecture and a short skit. A photo exhibit depicting the lives of the heroes of the revolution, including two rare manuscripts handwritten by Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, was also enjoyed by guests. Entertainment was headed by Romy Ura and Edgar Fernandez. The highlight of the evening were donations of ・100,000 each to two organizations, the Amer-Asian School in Okinawa through its director Midori Thayer and to the Philippine Orphanage through the Philippine Consulate. In addition, ・200,000 was donated to two non-profit organizations in Manila and Okinawa. |
