Man recants confession of murder in court

A man, on trial for murder, recanted his earlier confession for the crime at the second trial of his case, Dec. 24. The incident took place at Motobu Village. According to the police investigation, the suspect, Seifuku Kinjo, 58, had a quarrel with his friend at Motobu Harbor. During the quarrel Kinjo pushed his friend into the ocean and he drowned. During the first court hearing of the case, Kinjo admitted to the crime, but at the second hearing he insisted on his innocence. He said that he confessed because police officers threatened him and forced him to. Kinjo’s defense lawyer did not know that he was going to state his innocence until just before the trial began.
