Ishigaki district court rules on student murder case

Ishigaki District Court announced the verdict in a murder compensation case, Dec. 24, involving five students who had been convicted earlier for assaulting and killing their schoolmate in July, 1996. The murder occurred on the roof of an apartment building where the students had been drinking.

The parents of the victim sued the suspects and the Ishigaki Distinct Court ruled that the should have kept their children under control. The court said that since the students are under age and do not have proper means to pay a compensation, so the their parents should pay the compensation to the victimís family, totaling •72 million.
