Swimmer's booster club fund-raiser

Date Posted: 1999-01-01

All SOFA status swimmers are invited to a Swim-a-Thon scheduled for Jan. 15 (Fri.) , to complete up to 200 laps or 5,000 meters within 2 hours. The event starts at 4:45 p.m.

Friday, 15 Jan, 4:45pm to 6:45pm (make-up sessions or extra sessions at Foster 25 meter pool. This event is organized to raise funds for swim meet fees, travel costs, practice equipment, and the ODST practice bus.

The Swimmers will solicit pledges from relatives, friends, neighbors, teachers, and others. based on a certain amount per lap completed, a set amount, or a matching amount (or some combination). For example, Jane could get Aunt June to pledge 10 cents per lap, up to a max of $15. Or, Jane’s Uncle Milt may make a matching pledge up to $100 if Jane earns that much from other sources. Or Jane goes to San-A and they pledge ¥5,000 yen if Jane completes 200 laps. Anything that can be thought of can be done - any combination of pledges will work. From experience, even novice swimmers can complete all 200 laps - always ask the pledger for a maximum amount for their pledge

Swimmers then complete their laps. Parents are expected to help count. We will also have sport drink and other refreshments available for the event. Swimmers then collect the pledged funds, either cash, yen, or checks payable to ASBCO. Funds will be collected at practice by the ODST coaching staff, then forwarded to the ASBCO Treasurer. Finally, swimmers then choose prizes based on the amount of funds they have collected.
