New restriction slapped on taxis

Date Posted: 1998-12-25

Okinawa General bureau announced Dec. 16 new measures to enforce parking restrictions by targeting taxi drivers who violate traffic rules and sit in their parked cars on streets in no-parking zone waiting for customers. The new rules especially target those who are found to be repeating offenders.

The drivers found violating the rules are first given an oral warning. If the same driver is found in violation for the second time a written warning will be issued. And on the third violation, the driverís taxi license will be revoked for a period of time.

Okinawa General Bureau to take an action because of increasing number of complaints from residents in Naha City, where parking space is more limited than elsewhere in Okinawa.
