Okinawa City turns 25

Okinawa City celebrates its 25th anniversary this Saturday and Sunday in what is shaping up to be a weekend filled with great entertainment, fabulous food, and the chance to sample some wonderful cultural events. The festival kicks-off at 2 p.m. Saturday at Okinawa City's Gintenkai shopping area with live Okinawan music performances, and traditional Okinawan food.

The main event takes place Saturday on Gate 2 Street and Chuo Park Avenue with speeches by Okinawa City Mayor Masakazu Nakasone, several members of the city assembly, and Okinawa Prefecture Governor Keiichi Inamine. Other events include Eisa dancing, and performances by the Koza Jazz Band and Fukuhara Melody Special.

The highlight of the event will be a live concert by Diamantes. Other performers include B Toripazu Meja Band, Jet and Kachan & Borderless. Folk dancers from different parts of the world will also perform on Gate 2 Street, which will be lined with food and craft stalls.
