Two bodies found in burned out car on field in Onna

Date Posted: 2003-05-10

A hiker discovered a burned out car with two charred bodies inside on a farm road amidst sugar cane fields in Onna Village last Friday. According to Ishikawa Police, the car had apparently burned a few days earlier, but no one had noticed it until the passing hiker took a closer look.

Subsequent investigation shows the car was a rental car belonging to a rent-a-car company in Ginowan City. Investigators concluded that the car and the bodies had been deliberately doused with gasoline before setting it on fire.

The rental car agency records show that a man had rented the vehicle three days before the discovery, and had failed to return it. Records at a mental hospital in Okinawa City revealed that two of its patients, a man and a woman, had gone also gone missing three days earlier. The bodies in the car were badly burned, and the police are waiting for the results of an autopsy to confirm the identity of the bodies.
