New governor takes office today

Keiichi Inamine, who won the Okinawa Prefecture gubernatorial election at the ballot on Nov. 15, takes his office today. The previous governor, Masahide Ota, resigned officially yesterday.

Today, Inamine entered the Prefecture Office for the inauguration ceremony, which is presided over by Hiroshi Miyahira the former vice chairman of the prefecture assembly. Following the ceremony, he held his first official press conference, announcing his installation as a governor. Inamine is scheduled to travel to Tokyo, Dec. 11 for one-day talks with the central government about projects for promoting the Okinawan economy.
