Government to discount traffic fees in Okinawa

The Tokyo Government announced Monday that they are planning to discount traffic fees in Okinawa as a measure to boost the battered local economy. The fares that will be discounted are highway toll fees on the Okinawa Expressway and airfares to and from Okinawa. The two were selected because they will have an immediate positive effect to the Okinawan economy.

The final plans to discount the fares in Okinawa will be made early next year and the discounts would take effect from the beginning of the fiscal year in April. There is also another plan in process that would decrease the fee for telephone lines.
