Gangster arrested for swindle

Date Posted: 1998-12-04

The alleged boss of a local organized gangster group was arrested on suspicion of a swindle, Thursday. According to investigation of Okinawa Prefecture Police, Nobuhiro Miyara proposed to a president of a real estate company to buy a hotel in Naha City. The hotel in question was not for sale, but Miyara convinced the president that he could arrange the sale, but the deal had to be done quickly because there were supposedly other people in mainland Japan who were willing to buy the hotel.

The real estate company president then arranged to pay Miyara 470 million as a down payment for the property. Miyara received the money in five installments. During his negotiations, Miyara made several trips to Tokyo and Osaka pretending that he went there to negotiate with other prospective buyers and that the real estate company president had to hurry if he wanted the deal.

After receiving the money, Miyara broke off contacts with the president, who eventually contacted the police. The investigators found three boxes of documents that prove the swindle took place. They are now investigating whether there are any accomplices.
