Women pro-wrestlers to put on show Sunday

Date Posted: 1998-11-06

Grunts, roars, and smell of sweat are usually ingredients at any pro-wrestling match with the spectators making at least as much noise as the wrestlers. And that promises to be the atmosphere in the Okinawa City Athletic Parkís outdoor stage, only this time the wrestlers are women.

The event will start at 2 p.m. and pits a team of female wrestlers from All Japan Womenís Pro-Wrestling Grand Prix Ď98 circuit against each other. The show has been on the road since July, and they have toured cities along the length of the Japanese archipelago, all the way from Hokkaido to Kyushu and Okinawa.

One of the most awaited matches will pit Yumiko Hotta against Manami Toyoda, not the least because Hotta has aspirations in national politcs. She was a candidate in the last election for the House of Councillors, or the Upper House. And although she didnít win a seat, she wows to try again as tenaciously as she fights in the wrestling ring.

The show consists of six top-ranked wrestlers plus another ten who are ranked as juniors. The top wrestlers will put on 30-minute bouts while the juniors will wrestle 20 minutes.

Ringside tickets for the event are •4,000 while regular tickets sell for •2,000. Japan Update will present free tickets for the first 20 readers who call our office Friday after noon to claim them.
