Marine hit-and-run case given to prosecutors

The case of a Marine accused of hit-and-run accident that happened Friday, has been handed to the prosecutors’ office for indictment.

According to Okinawa Police, Cpl Scotty Jackson, 22, from Camp Schwab, is accused of drunk driving, causing bodily injury through negligence and leaving the scene of an accident. Hitoshi Nakaoji, 27, was slightly injured when the official military vehicle Jackson was driving hit his motorcycle in Naha. Police say the car first hit three parked cars and then bumped Nakaoji’s motorcycle on the opposite side of the road. Jackson left the scene, and the car he had been driving was found shortly afterwards on a parking lot. He was apprehended by the Japanese police later the same day. The police also say that Jackson denied the charges first after he was apprehended, but later confessed.
