Nishihara Town starts Internet service

Date Posted: 1998-10-30

Nishihara Town Welfare Conference switched on a computer in one of the rooms in the Welfare Conference Building, Tuesday. This marked the start of the chance for the town’s physically challenged to use the computer for free.

The computer is hooked to a system called NOMANET, which offers handicapped people information for their everyday living. While users at the center surf the Internet, the Welfare Center will provide a person to teach how to operate the computer.

Most importantly, with this service physically challenged people can get information on available jobs, which in turn helps them to stay active.

A member of the conference said that the center is planning to increase the number of computers to three. He also said that the computer rooms could also become a social gathering place for the center’s customers.
