Full Moon Festival let’s the beast out

Date Posted: 1998-10-18

The average person has a one in a million chance of winning the lottery. An even wilder chance is that the Partyman is wrong about something. Well it happened and I’m sorry. The poetry reading I said was going on last Saturday at Jet Club on Gate 2 street is really going on this week. I need to check my zodiac sign’s horoscope to see how this mistake happened. Maybe it’s because of the full moon. Both are key elements to this week’s story.Backbeat- Zodiac put on an inspiring show at Pescaderia. Lead sing 'Chibi' belted out soulful lyrics and the music was filled with moving solos played by people who made it all look easy. As one onlooker put it, "this is what rock is supposed to sound like." The Partyman couldn’t agree more. Zodiac’s return to the rock scene, both on stage and in the lead of the Okinawa Rock Music Society, is an opportunity for young rockers to see how it all began. Around the block, around the clock, the Partyman is on the watch for what’s happening on Okinawa. Be sure to check out the various parts of the Ryukyu Kingdom Festival for both traditional and current music. On the latter, Clay Sun Union plays at Oonayama park during the Naha Fest from 8-9pm. This week’s Pick of the Week is the Full Moon Festival ‘98 at Ichanda Beach next to the Nakagusuku Mall on hwy 329.

Oct 6th marks the first full moon of the fall and that’s as good a reason as any to have a party with over 1,000,000 (count it!) in prizes given away. Now anyone can come to have fun, but to be eligible for the prizes, you have to have a ticket. And I have them. The party itself goes on 3 and 4 Oct and features as its main event Las Vegas talent Travis Jones who presenting an eclectic mix of techno music and Eisa. This is something the Partyman has to see in person. Don’t you? Also on hand will be techno-dancer Miho Oonishi and comedian Satoshi Kawamitsu. Performing the Taiko and Eisa portions will be Sashiki Seinenkai, which roughly translates to ‘youth-group’ (similar to the Boy’s Club in the U.S.). On the M-I-C will be FM Okinawa’s beautiful Masumi Rodriguez and she will be announcing the winners of the Hot Air Balloon and Parasailing rides. Tickets are ¥3,000 in advance and ¥3,500 at the door and may be purchased at 937-4454 (Japanese speaking only) and 930-1592 (Hideaway Club helping out for English speakers). The party starts at 4pm each day and ends when you feel the tide wakes you up. Oh yes!

Did I mention that I have tickets to this event? You know the drill. Call, fax or email the Partyman and you might win one of two pair of tickets for you and your loved one to this exciting event. Remember, only those with tickets can win but everyone is welcome. Find Nakagusuku Mall on the left about 3 kms pass the hwy 81 intersection going south on 329. Look for the big fish on Mall’s side and follow the trail of lights to the party. The Partyman is a servant of the people. Tell me your favorite club, DJ or party.
