Heads-up for Halloween PartiesDate Posted: 1998-10-18 Backbeat- Well, Typhoon Zeb put a damper on last week’s Pick of the Week. But I’m happy to inform you that the West Indian Association’s function is on again for Sat, 24 Oct. The Partyman will be there, and I hope you will too. Congratulations to Will German, winner of the ticket to the event. Quickly, here are some of the happenings for this week. Banana Jamaica has a special event on 24 Oct as Papa Bon comes to town for a night of reggae music. Tickets: ¥2,000 with a free drink included. Banana Jamaica is on hwy 58 across from MCAS Futenma. Coconut Moon (keep reading for directions) has a "Genuine Italian Pasta" party on 28 Oct and is a nice getaway any day. Your ¥2,500 covers the food, beer and soft drinks and you can take your lover out for a party by the beach with this one; or meet one. Acoustically speaking, Cry Wolf returns to The Hideaway on 23 Oct. The next night, Don and the crew have a "name the band" contest for its houseband. Think of a name. Win cool stuff. Or, if Techno is your kick, Club Bump (on Kokusai, 7 stores down from OPA) is having its monthly party on 23 Oct. Check out the Waken crew featuring DJ’s John Monroe, Pat Blaze and Owada at Bump (at 098-867-7578) for ¥3,000 (¥2,500 with flyer). This Halloween, there are plenty of choices for you to party. For family fun, Pescaderia Naha (one of the Partyman’s favorite places) has magic, dinner and more. Children will be cared for in a partitioned area while parents enjoy more adult entertainment with dinner and the band, San Miguel. This is a costume party so dress up and enjoy yourself; prizes for the best costume. Tickets are ¥2,500/Adults, ¥1,500/15-7 yrs old, and ¥500/under 6. Doors open at 6pm. Call 098-852-1500 for more information. Off of hwy 58 near the Renaissance Hotel, Coconut Moon (owned and operated by island rock legend, Kiyomasa Higa of ZODIAC) provides a classy way to get away for Halloween. A costume party, with prizes, combine with live entertainment from two rock bands is the feature event for this bar-by-the-sea. Tickets are ¥2,500 for ladies and ¥3,000 for gentlemen with doors opening at 8pm. Your ticket gets you free food and some drinks all night, and, if you want to be really romantic, you can walk along the beach and stare at the stars without missing a beat of the music. As you turn off of hwy 58 (near the Ishikawa exit) to the Renaissance, turn left and look for the Coconut Moon on the right in about a kilometer. Finally, this week’s Pick of the Week is really next week’s place to be as The Hideaway, on Gate 2 Street, holds its 2nd annual Monsters of Rock Halloween bash. This will be a two-day extravaganza (30 and 31Oct) with plenty of live bands: Zero Faith (Hi Sean), Noyz-As-Hell, Don’s Acoustics, and the Hideaway House Band. Hopefully the house band will have a name by then. Cover is $5 or ¥800 each night with the 31st being a costume party. Use your imagination, wear hearing protection and bring 10 of your best friends to the Hideaway; on the right leaving Kadena near the intersection with hwy 330. Find the Partyman, if you can. |
