Two persons missing near shore in ChatanDate Posted: 1998-10-18 According to Okinawa City Police, Naoki Uema and Yuuki Maeda went with four other people to the Chatan seawall area to watch big waves hitting the coast after the typhoon. When four of them attempted to take a video close up to the waves by descending down a concrete slope, a large wave swept them into the sea. Two men managed to get back on to the beach with the help of their friends, but Uema and Maeda were swept further out to the sea. The Okinawa Meteorological Observatory had announced a warning of high waves at the time of the accident. Police say that everyone in the party had been drinking. Search for the two missing continues. A body of a man suspected to be one of the missing persons was found off a beach in Ginowan City, Tuesday. A positive identification is pending the results of an autopsy. |
