Man arrested for hoax threat

Date Posted: 1998-10-09

Gushikawa City Police arrested a Ginowan man, Tuesday, on suspicion of threatening to poison the water supply of a local hotel. According to the police, Kiyomasa Komesu, 48, unemployed, claimed that he had not been treated fairly by the hotel management while he worked there, and he wanted the pay back in kind.

According to investigators, the Yanashiro Town resort hotel received a phone call on Sep. 7, and another a day later, informing that someone had put agricultural chemicals in the hotelís water tank. The caller reportedly said that "Your customers, visitors and anyone in the hotel will die!" The hotel staff immediately called the police who took water samples. All samples proved to be clean.

At the time the hotel had over 100 guests, and the staff posted warnings cautioning everyone against drinking tap water and to use mineral water instead which the hotel provided at no cost to the guests and staff.
