National Pension Center construction work started

Date Posted: 1998-09-25

Construction on the National Pension Center began Tuesday at Mihama, Chatan Town. The new center will be the first of its kind in Okinawa. Okinawa is the only prefecture in the nation without such a facility.

When completed, the four-story facility will contain a game room, karaoke room, restaurant and conference rooms, plus administrative offices. A swimming pool, tennis courts and a outdoor concert stage will be constructed outside.

The construction costs will be shouldered by the central government. Okinawa Prefecture National Pension Association will manage the facility.

The site of the center is next to the American Village, and the officials hope that as many people as possible will utilize the facility once it opens. The center will be open to anyone and it is scheduled to open in January 2000.
