Monorail not cause of rising water level

Date Posted: 1998-09-25

Okinawa Prefecture officials have concluded that the construction of the monorail line in Naha City is not the cause of rising water levels in the area. The rising ground water level has caused flooding at some locations and residents have suspected that the construction of the monorail is to blame.

In announcing the conclusion of a research to the matter, Tuesday, the Architecture and Construction Division of the Prefectural Government said that this year’s extra rainfall rather than the construction works is to blame. They pointed out that the rainfall this year is way above normal and said that the rivers and sewage systems in the area cannot handle the amount of waterflow resulting from the rains.
