Enjoy Flamenco? What is flamenco? It is both a vigorous rhythmic dance style of the Andalusian Gypsies as well as the music which accompanies the dance. And the best surroundings to enjoy this Spanish form of art is Nikko Alivila Hotel. Its Spanish style design compliments the guest performance of El Viento de Andalusia. This eminent 11-member group, consisting of 9 female dancers, a guitarist and a singer, will leave you intoxicated with the sultry beat of flamenco. The group has performed in Tokyo and other places in Japan.

Michiko Okamoto, the striking founder of this group, was born in Hokkaido, graduated from the prestigious Waseda University in Tokyo, and later studied dance in Spain. Okamoto joined a professional dance group in Spain, later returning to Japan and forming Viento de Andalusia. In addition, she is a much sought after choreographer for musicals and recitals. The troupe has performed at the Alivila for the past 4 years and this year's performance promises to be spectacular!

The group's top-notch flair can be seen for one day only for lunch and dinner. Alivila offers lunch from 12:00-13:30 at your choice of a Japanese, Chinese or Western style restaurant for ¥7,000. The hour long show will begin at 13:30 in the theater. The dinner plan, beginning with the show from 17:00 to 18:00 and finishing with the meal, costs ¥10,000 with the same restaurant choices plus a BBQ (teppan yaki).

There are only 150 tickets available! The reservations can be made by phone, but should be done in Japanese since the operators speak little English. The surer way for English speakers is to drive to the Alivila and reserve tickets in person. Officials at Alivila say that if the event does not sell out in advance, tickets will be available at the door, but based on previous experience waiting that long is not recommended, if you're interested in attending.

During September, a special price of ¥20,000 per room is offered for up to 4 people. From Oct. 1through Dec. 28 and Jan. 4 thropugh Mar. 31, the weekday rate with breakfast for four is ¥7,000 per person, for three people ¥8,000 per person, a couple spends a night for ¥9,000 each, and a room can be had all for oneself for ¥14,000. For weekend rates, add ¥500 to each weekday price.

Directions: From Kadena Rotary (circle), head towards Nago on 58, go about two kilometers., turn left at Irimiya Intersection onto Route.6 and past Torii Station. When the road splits veer to the left through the traffic light and you'll see a turquoise sign in Japanese. Follow these signs and curve to the right. Alivila is visible on your far left, pass it and take a left at the flashing yellow light. Follow the winding driveway to the hotel.
