Miyako Public Health Center identified the source of O-26 virus

Chief of Miyako Public Health Center announced that the center had managed to identify the source of O-26 virus, Thursday. During the outbreak, 77 persons were infected in Okinawa, 38 of them in Miyako. A two-year-old girl who caught this disease last month, was identified as the first person to be infected.

Officials at Miyako Island Public Health Center said that the virus O-26 originates in cow dung and is transmitted to humans by flies. This also marked the first time in Japan that the source of the virus O-26 has been identified.
