Hispanic Heritage Month

By: Jose A. Perez, Hispanic American Association, Okinawa, Japan

Date Posted: 1998-09-18

Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, is an excellent time for all Hispanics to reflect upon both the positives and negatives of all Hispanic past, present and future.

I am very proud to be Hispanic. Many strides have been made by us, but there is much left undone! Everyday I see signs of both discrimination and advances. But probably, the one which hurts more is where Hisapnics have such a hard time working together.

If I could wish for one thing it would be for all Hispanics to unite regardless of whether you are of Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Colombian, etc. ancestry. What Hispanic Heritage means to me is "Let's respect all Hispanics and their contributions."
