Slippin' and slidin' at The Family Waterpark

There are many ways to beat the heat of the Okinawa sun. One of the best methods I have found so far is The Family Waterpark (TFW), formerly the Onsen Waterpark. This recently re-opened facility offers a variety of delights for waterlovers of all ages. Those in the mood to relax can laze on a raft in the current guided wading pool, sit in a hotspring (HOT!), or jump along with the crowd in the surging wave pool. For thrill seekers, TFW has eight slides for your heart-pounding pleasure. Three two-story ramps make quick work of the faint of heart. Three devilishly twisting tube-type slides offer single and double raft-riding fun and a solo luge chute. As if all that were not enough, there is also a two-story, steep twin slide. Did I mention that it was steep?

Getting to the park is as easy as the park is fun. Coming north on Route 330, turn right on Route 329, then left at the next lighted intersection (go under the bridge on the left), and then look for the park on the right, after about a kilometer. Coming south on Route 75 (as in from Camp Courtney), turn left on Route 85, then right on Route 224 (just before you go down the hill) and look for the park on the left, after about a half kilometer. Whichever way you come, the tube slides are clearly visible, towering about most of the other building, and provide a good aiming point to guide you.

No food is allowed inside the park area, but quick snacks and drinks are available at reasonable prices. Outside, parking is plentiful. Admission is 800 for adults, 400 for junior and high school students, and 300 for elementary school age children. The fun, relaxation and reasonable prices make the TFW an ideal spot on a hot day. Come for the excitement or comet o relax. Come for a quick break or come to spend the day. But come to The Family Waterpark. You'll be happy you did.
