Orion Beer Festival, All Island Eisa Festival

Date Posted: 1998-09-04

The Annual Orion Beer Festival will be held at Okinawa Athletic Park Sep. 12 and 13. The annual All Okinawa Eisa Festival will be held concurrently at the park's Baseball Stadium on Sep. 13. The beer festival will start at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. The festival will close at 10 p.m. on both days with the beer taps going dry half an hour earlier.

As every year, the festival features plenty of entertainment and food. Parsha Club, a popular local band will play on Saturday and Orion Beer Festival staple, Rinken Band, will be on stage on Sunday.

This year, organizers say that they have added some extra spice to the program. Besides the bands, there will be Hawaiian and Okinawan dancers, and even accordion and shamisen players who walk among the audience and challenging people to join them.

Organizers have also done away with the old ticket system which forced patrons to wait in two lines, forst to buy tickets and then to get their drink or food. Now everything is sold for cash. They have also increased the number of outlets by a third which should alleviate the crowding at the booths. New emphasis has been placed on the variety of foods available.

In order to curb drinking by minors, under 20 year olds are not allowed to the grounds without an adult supervisor. There will be checking points at the gates to ensure that the rule is followed.

Finally, there are no legal parking spots in the area and organizers strongly urge people to come by taxi or bus. The best bet for U.S. military customers is to walk from Kadena Gate 2.
