WorldCasts

Date Posted: 1998-08-28

Most of us who have resided overseas any length of time can remember returning home and feeling like having arrived at a totally different place because so much had changed in our absence?

A new way for those stationed overseas to keep in touch with hometown happenings is now available on the Internet. A Louisville, KY, based company; Video2Net has created a service called WordCasts.com that brings the hometown news to the new town you call home. The service distributes live broadcasts from local TV news stations to the world via streaming video on the Internet.

Bruce Hidaka-Gordon, General Manager of Video2Net says, "This is a long overdue innovation in keeping in touch with local news. WorldCasts.com is a fantastic way to increase morale and to stay informed about what's going on at home."

WorldCasts.com takes the video and audio signals from local television news stations and broadcasts them to the world on the Internet. Although the video pictures are not that clear yet and the movement is a bit jerky, the audio is perfect and every word can be understood.

The first of many local news stations to offer their news and live events through WorldCasts is WAVE- 3 TV in Louisville, KY. They can be found on the Internet at http://www.wave3.com.

Video2Net is currently negotiating similar contracts with numerous other local stations which will be available as soon as the contract negotiations are completed. Hidaka-Gordon added, "Let's face it, just about everyone gets homesick every now and again, so I feel that this service is really needed."

To access the WorldCasts.com service you need a Windows operating system and the new "Windows Media Player" software that is available for free on the Internet. It can be found at any of the sites in WorldCasts.com network. This service is completely free for anyone with Internet access.
