Loisir Summer Festival hopes to end August with a bang

The Loisir Hotel Okinawa will be hosting their third annual summer festival this weekend on August 28, 29, and 30. The event, which is officially named the "Migusuku Matsuri", was started with the idea of bringing together the people of the Migusuku area in Naha, while promoting its rich historical background within the setting of one of Okinawa's finest hotels.

An assortment of activities and entertainment is scheduled for the weekend, with the main part of the festival taking place around the hotel pool. There will be plenty of food and drinks available, with a choice of inexpensive "matsuri" food at any one of the pool-side food booths, or you can visit one of the more exquisite restaurants located inside of the Loisir Hotel. "Yakitori", "yakisoba", and "soba", ranging in prices from 300 to 500 are some of the foods you can expect to find around the pool. The outdoor food booths will also be selling cold beer for 300 to keep you cool during the hot summer nights. Soft drinks will also be on tap for 100.

Three different live concerts will be happening over the three day period, with "Connection Latina" bringing you some warm sounds to start things off on Friday night. The group "Automate Satisfaction" is scheduled for Saturday night, and "Moonshine" will close things out on Sunday evening. Each show will begin at 6:30 pm at the pool-side main stage. The outdoor pool area will enable you to relax and move about freely. Organizers are hoping the free music will help everyone to enjoy the evening, and create a friendly atmosphere for Okinawans, Americans, and mainland Japanese tourists alike.

Some of the other events that will be taking place are a fashion show on Sunday at 4 pm, an ice carving exhibit at 7:10 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, and a gardening bazaar in the lobby from 9 am until 9 pm on Saturday and Sunday. If you are a pottery fan, then you will not want to miss the "Pottery Workshop" on the second floor. You can take a turn at one of the potter's wheels, and with some simple instructions make your own piece of pottery! The "Pottery Workshop" will be going on from 7 pm until 9 pm on all three days of the festival. You can also get a chance to make your own original t-shirt on the second floor, from 5 pm until 9 pm on Saturday, and from 12 noon until 9 pm on Sunday. All the activities are guaranteed to be fun for both adults and children. Kids will also enjoy the characters from the "Mega Rangers" TV series when they come to life. The characters can be seen walking around the pool area at 1 pm and again at 3 pm on Sunday only.

There will also be a "Chinese Gourmet Fair" on the third floor from 6 pm until 6 :30 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Other restaurants will be offering a variety of cuisine and special menus throughout the three day event.

Saturday night will end with a bang of fireworks lighting up the sky. If you enjoy fireworks, be sure to check out the festival on Saturday. Fireworks will not be held on Friday or Sunday night.

The management of the Loisir Hotel expressed their wish for everyone to join in the fun. "We have free parking, the concerts are for free, and there are many other free activities to enjoy. Everyone is welcome."

To enter the pool area you must first enter through the lobby of the hotel. You then proceed to the second floor pool entrance. If you will be purchasing food and beverages at the food booths, you must buy tickets at the entrance, which can then be used instead of money.

To get to the Loisir Hotel, head south on Highway 58 from Kadena. After entering Naha city, continue going straight. You will pass the Ocean View Hotel on you right. Once you pass the KDD building and Hotel East town on you right, turn right at the next traffic signal on to Route 390. After turning, Naha Port will be on your left. Head straight to the end of the road, and you will reach the Loisir Hotel.
