Date Posted: 2003-04-26

An Okinawan man returning home from work in the early hours of Monday morning ended up beaten and robbed after encountering a group of seven male foreigners in Uechi, Okinawa City.

According to the man, they suddenly surrounded him as he approached the group. At first they were all laughing and said something that the man did not understand. Suddenly one of the foreigners punched him on the face. He said another kicked him on the stomach, while a third one held his arms. Finally, they took the man's wallet and fled the scene.

The man managed to get to the police station where he reported the incident. Okinawa City Police, suspecting that the foreigners were most likely American servicemen or otherwise related to the U.S. military, reportedly plan to ask the help of the American Military Police officials to locate the seven.
