Date Posted: 2003-12-18

The 8th Okinawa Antique Fair at the Okinawa City Gymnasium in Koza Athletic Park from Dec. 23 (Tue.) to 28 (Sun.) exhibits a large selection of old Japanese and Okinawan curios. Some 40 antique dealers exhibits the antiques that include kimonos, paintings, wooden furniture, Okinawan arts and crafts and Western items from the Edo era to the modern day. This fair is well worth visiting and taking a careful look. The items on display give the visitor a taste of the everyday life of Okinawa’s past generations and a glimpse into the history of Japan and Okinawa.

The antique fair is held twice a year, in spring and fall. Antiques always spark a lot of interest, and they make excellent purchases for home decoration, gifts, historical research and more. Sale proceeds from the fair will go to the Okinawa City Scholarship Society.Admission is ¥200 (free of charge for children under 12 years of age). Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and dealers will accept U.S dollars. To get to Okinawa City Gymnasium from KAB Gate 2 take turn right onto Kokutai Street (Route 23) towards Chatan Town. Turn left at the second traffic light to enter Koza Athletic Park. A parking lot is right in front of the gymnasium.
