Ocean View Hotel to reopen as Grand Ocean Hotel

Date Posted: 2003-12-18

Ocean View Hotel in Naha City is scheduled to reopen Jan. 1, 2004 with a new name “Grand Ocean Hotel.” The centrally located hotel has been closed since November 2002. The hotel has been undergoing renovation since it has been closed and will offer 175 rooms instead of previous 207 because the number of luxury suites has been increased. The charge for the new suites is Y35,000 per night while business class rooms cost Y13,000 per night. Every room has Internet access. Although the hotel has accepted reservations through mainland travel agencies for some time, the new operator of the hotel has not been disclosed.

The new operator has also started hiring new staff. There are now 30, and staff is eventually scheduled to double to 60. The restaurants inside the hotel are scheduled to open by April when the new spa in the basement will open also. The Grand Ocean Hotel will open to quite a different business environment than when it closed. No less than four new hotels have opened in the same area, one right next door, and the competition for customers is expected to be fierce.
