Swim Team Succeeds

Date Posted: 1999-03-20

The MCCS Semper Fit/Aquatics' Okinawa Dolphins Swim Team recently returned from a successful, end-of-season competition in Tokyo. Overall, the Okinawa Dolphins finished ninth, a repeat of last year's finish. While fewer athletes made the trip this year, the team more than made up for the reduced numbers with enthusiasm and effort, placing higher in individual events, with many recording PBs and smashing team records. The meet included 13 teams from the Pacific Rim, including local Japanese and military dependants' teams.

Individual highlights included performances by 16-year-old Greg Grubbs, who set an area record in the 200 meter breaststroke and captured the overall point race for his age group; Rina Ihu, 8, who won the 25 meter butterfly, and the relay team of Jennifer Erickson, Maryanne Reckling, Beth Choike, and Kristi Carter which combined to place in the top 8 in every race the girls contested.
