Call off the search. For all you steak lovers, the Seamen's Club, a non-profit Merchant Marine establishment, offers one of the best filet mignons in Okinawa! Combine a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff and a bite from a tender filet cooked to perfection, and I knew I'd be back for more.

The filet mignon was complimented perfectly with a choice of salad, soup, rolls, and sautéed vegetables. A varied wine list, several choices of beer and other beverages to satisfy your pallet ensures a delightful dining experience. During lunchtime, breakfast and lunch items at served at reasonable prices, and nightly dinner specials feature 7 days a week.

Charlie Wong, the new Center Director of Seamen's Club, highlighted the club's very important role, no matter where the club may be located. "The most important function of this organization" said Mr. Wong, "is to provide a home away from home for U.S. Merchant Seamen."

To ensure the comfort of the merchant marines, Seamen's Club has a small library with donated books, a gift shop and newsstand, and a game room. An there is always the promise of delicious food on every visit. The Naha location is but one of several Seamen's Clubs located around the world, from as far afield as Diego Garcia to Casablanca. Mr. Wong welcomes any recommendations to help provide a better environment for the seamen.

Directions: Drive south on Hwy. 58 towards Naha. Follow Hwy. 58 up the ramp and merge right toward the airport. Before you reach the airport and the Duty Free Shopping Center, you'll see the Seamen's Club on the right. To make reservations from on base call 098-892-5111, ext. 637-7485, and off base at 098-857-1753. Party and banquet room available. All Merchant Marines and DoD cardholders are welcome.
