Koza Baptist men present "Living Lord's Supper"

Date Posted: 2003-04-12

Most of the men at Koza Baptist Chuch are usually groomed like the typical military men on Okinawa. But for one week each year, thirteen of them don beards, long hair and biblical costumes to portray Christ and his twelve disciples. No scene in Jesus' life has been painted more often than the Last Supper, the original painted by Leonardo daVinci. For the past five years Koza Baptist Church has presented a living depiction of the Last Supper with all the characters portrayed in full costume in front of a 10' x 30' re-creation of the painting's background.

This hour and twenty minute production is presented with complete staging, lights, and beautiful music. Each of the disciples delivers a moving monologue telling of his experience with Jesus. This is followed by a re-enactment of the Last Supper as recorded in the Bible. The presentation is under the direction of associate pastor Jim Brooks, who has produced this drama at various churches over the past 15 years.

"The pageant has been enthusiastically received through the years and continues to bless both the audience and cast each time it is presented," said Bo Russell, Koza's pastor. "It's a great way to appreciate the real significance of Easter and focus on the important events during the last week of Christ's ministry on earth,".

Everyone is cordially invited to attend one of the performances of "The Living Lord's Supper." It will be presented twice-Thursday, April 17th at 7:00 PM, and Easter Sunday, April 20th at 11:00 AM during Koza's regular worship service. Koza Baptist Church is located 1.4 KM out Kadena Gate 2 Street, across from the junior high school. There is no charge for the performance that is open to everyone on island. A nursery is provided for children to age 3. For further information, contact the church at 937-5036, or 935-2673.
