TeleWork Center to open in Okinawa City

Date Posted: 1999-03-02

Okinawa City has decided to utilize the old Koza Shopping Center building in Chuo to establish the planned Okinawa City TeleWork Center. The center is a part of the plans drafted by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to create an ultramodern telecommunications network between Okinawa and mainland Japan. The plan calls for building three such centers in Okinawa City, Kadena Town and Nago City.

Officials say that building the TeleWork center in Chuo, Okinawa City, will help to boost the local economy of Okinawa City out of its current doldrums. The companies utilizing the new center are expected to create many new jobs. The center will be completely wired by using high capacity optical fiber cables necessary for high-speed telecommunications networks. In addition, tenant companies are expected to get preferential telecommunication rates for links between Okinawa and Tokyo.

The construction of the TeleWork Center is expected to be completed by September.
