Bowlers can glow in renovated Kadena lanesBy: Marie W. Conway Date Posted: 1999-03-02 Bill Emery, the bowling complex manager stated that this installation eliminated the need for resurfacing every two years. These lanes will now be almost maintenance free for at least twenty years. AMF then subcontracted Acoustic Wave Works to install the glow in the dark package which consisted of black lighting, stage and concert special lighting which created 55 special light patterns. MSgt Mike Swantek and his Civil Engineering electrical crew installed all the special light fixtures and wiring while Loyal Furnishings was contracted to install 'glow in the dark' carpets in both bowling centers. The result is 46 glow in the dark lanes coupled with glowing masking units, bowling balls and pins at both bowling centers. At both facilities, there is a snack bar offering American and Japanese-style dishes. A variety of video games are also available for your enjoyment. The Pro Shop on the premises offers everything from bowling bags to shoes, Wed. through Sun., 9 - 6 p.m. (closed 1 - 2 p.m.). There are many youth programs available, including birthday parties, lock-ins, events for special needs children, school physical education bowling, and after school free bowling. All birthday parties scheduled for Saturday and Sunday are glow in the dark! The All Star Lanes is a great place to have fun with the whole family every Sunday from 3 to 11 p.m., when kids bowl free so long as the parent or guardian also bowls. Classes are available for the beginners to learn the basics or advanced bowlers to improve their average in this growing sport. Emery invites everyone to come and experience the wave of the future. "I am confident, Kadena All Star Lanes and Skoshi Bowl patrons will continue to 'Glow and Bowl' well into the next millennium," Emery said. The hours of operation for the All Star Lanes are Sunday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and 24 hours a day on Fridays and Saturdays. The best times for open bowling are Mon. through Fri. 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Moreover, the summer months of June through August are usually the best for open bowling. But to ensure lane availability, the best choice is to call ahead. For more information about prices or any of the programs, call Kristi Dangutis or Debra Lembach at 634-2290/2353. |
