Fake ¥10,000 bill found in Okinawa City

Date Posted: 1998-07-30

Okinawa City Police announced the discovery of one fake ¥10,000 bill, Thursday. The investigation into the case has so far yielded little, except the fact that the bill seems to be similar to those discovered recently in mainland Japan.

Police say that the fake bill is slightly smaller than the real one, and its color is greener. The bill was discovered in the night deposit box of the Bank of the Ryukyus Okinawa City Branch. Bank officials say that the fake bill was discovered when it was sent to the bank’s head office. The head office became suspicious of the bill and sent it to the Bank of Japan, Naha Branch, which confirmed that the bill was fake.

The bill was apparently cashed at a home electronics store in Okinawa City, but the store manager was not able to remember the person who had used the bill. A police investigation continues.
