Crime statistics published

Serious crime is on slight rise in Okinawa, according to statistics released recently by Okinawa Prefectural Police. The statistics cover serious crimes such as murder, robbery, international crime and embezzlement.

According to the figures, there were 82 cases or murder and robbery in the prefecture over the period of last six months, which is five cases more than during the previous six months. Of these cases, the police has 54 suspects in custody.

Crimes categorized as obscene incidents rose to 27, which is 10 more than previously. 15 of the culprits in these cases were arrested. To prevent this type of incidents the police plans to strengthen patrols in known problem areas during the summer and fall months.

Crimes involving foreigners decreased considerably. 59 such cases were recorded, while the old number stood at 108. But con men seem to be at large en force. 93 serious embezzlements and various swindling schemes were reported.
