Shonan Sugar Mfg. Co. strike over

Date Posted: 1999-01-08

The work at Shonan Sugar Manufacturing Co. started Tuesday.

The workers union and the company are still negotiating over a disagreement over the firing of eight employees. Both sides said that they are very anxious about the plight of farmers who grow sugar cane. If the strike went on a long time, the farmers would be hard hit because their cane would spoil and become unusable in making sugar.

Both sides agreed to start working from Jan. 12.

The amount of sugarcane brought to Shonan Sugar Manufacturing Company during the three-day strike is 3,000 tons.
