Hirotaka Makino offered vice governorís post

Date Posted: 1999-01-08

The new Okinawa Governor Keiichi Inamine announced his intention to propose Hirotaka Makino as his candidate for the post of Vice-Governor.

The Okinawa chapter of the Liberal Democratic Party and other groups backing Inamine also support Hirotaka Makino, 58, who serves as an auditor at the Bank of the Ryukyus. He is also a member of the Okinawan Economic Promotion Council, and a noted economist.

Inamine is scheduled to formally discuss his nomination with Vice-Governor Hideo Ishikawa, and Shigemasa Higa, the prefecture chief accountant, on Jan. 7. Makinoís election to the post will be finalized at that meeting.

Makino is expected to become one of Inamineís key advisers in his quest to get the local economy on the track.
