A 40-year old civil servant of the Naha City Office was found embezzling money from the National Health Insurance funds at the office, and was fired on Jan. 14. The man, whose name was not disclosed, had been a manager at the National Health Insurance Division.

According to officials at Naha City Office, the man had taken 250,000 from the money Naha citizens paid for their National Health Insurance. Investigators said that the man had houses in Naha City and collected the National Health Insurance Tax in cash from the residents between last August and December. He did not deposit the money he collected in the bank, but instead used the money to pay for his personal debts.
