Okinawa City Mayor requests prefecture’s support for Okinawa Children’s Land

Date Posted: 1999-01-08

Okinawa City Mayor Masakazu Nakasone paid a visit to Okinawa Governor Keiichi Inamine, Monday, asking Inamine’s help in securing more prefecture funds for the financially troubled Okinawa Children’s Land. Nakasone is also the chairman of the Children’s Land.

For starters, Children’s Park is requesting ¥35,000,000 urgently needed renovations at the park. The prefecture had originally promised the requested ¥35 million that matches the money Okinawa City is spending. However, citing monetary restraints, the prefecture later cut the amount to ¥22 million, and has announced an intention to cut the prefectural funding entirely by the fiscal year 2001.

Inamine expressed his sympathy to the Children’s land problems and promised to study ways to secure more help from the prefecture.
