Gushikami Village planning 1st Nature Festival

Officials at Gushikami Village are planning the first "Gushichan Nature Fest," to be held Aug. 9, in the village and areas around the Gushikami Castle site. The festival will feature an outdoor concert, an exhibition of old photographs, arts, pottery, handicrafts and dyeing. Visitors will be offered a chance to use their own hand in traditional dyeing techniques. A picture contest is also scheduled.

According to Seiro Kinjo of the Gushikami Village planning section, outdoor concerts and events are the order of the day. "Outdoor events and exhibition allow people to feel the touch of the nature with wind and greenery a part of the experience," Kinjo said, adding that "Traditional Okinawan tile roofs and green grass around the houses create a great surroundings for a picture exhibition." He also pointed out that one shouldn't forget the ocean view and splendid sunsets that the village can offer any visitor free of charge. Those who want to submit their photos for the picture contest, should send them to Gushikami Village Office, attn. to Gushichan Festival Organizing Committee.
