Oasis Water Vending

Oasis Water Vending has been providing fresh, clean, and tasty water to Military personnel and their families on bases since last January. Since water vending is a new industry in Japan, no vending machines were found in Okinawa a year ago. This fact gave John Rutledge, the president of Oasis Water Vending the idea of providing good quality water at inexpensive price to people living on bases.

"I think this is the best tasting water in Okinawa. You can tell the difference from tap water right away," said David Pogue, manager at Far East Services Co. who manages the business in Okinawa. It is a claim that has been proven by the number of satisfied customers who buy water daily.

"We have very positive reactions from the customers. Many people use our machines very consistently. We’ve never had a complaint about the quality of the water" Pogue smiled.

Drinking good quality water is as important for your body as watching out the daily intake of calories, doing exercises, and taking vitamins. 70 to 80 percent of human body is occupied by hydrate. Delivering indispensable nutrients and oxygen to the entire body, stimulating cells to activate metabolism, and helping eject waste matter from the system are all what internal water do. To stay healthy, serving your body high-quality water should be obvious.

Drinking Oasis water is not only good for your body but also good for the environment. According to Pogue, the bottled beverage boom in recent years in Japan as well as Okinawa has caused a serious plastic waste. However, through re-use of plastic containers, customers can take part in reducing plastic waste. That's the reason why the company strongly encourages the users to bring their own containers.

Oasis Water Vending machines are installed on 25 convenient locations from Camp Kinser to Camp Hansen. They can be found at shoppettes and inside residential towers. How to fill up is easy. Instructions are written on the machines both in English and Japanese, and clarified with pictures.

A New Year's promotion running through Feb. 28 offers customers a gallon of water for 25 cents, half of the regular price. For more information call 898-4061.
