Okinawan former pro-boxer accused of assault

Katsuo Tokashiki, 37, a former junior fly weigh boxing world champion, is being taken to the court by Kazumi Iwasaki, 58, a resident of Hawaii who claims that Tokashiki assaulted him after an argument over a woman acquaintance. The alleged assault took place Jan. 20, in a hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

According to court paper filed Monday, Tokashiki and his driver assaulted Iwasaki after an argument, and beat him up. Iwasaki is seeking 5.6 million in damages. Tokashiki categorically denies the charges.

In another lawsuit connected to the case, Iwasaki is suing Shincho Publishing Co., the publisher of Shukan Shincho weekly which ran a story about the fight. According to the lawsuit, the magazine libelously called Iwasaki "The Flea of Waikiki." Iwasaki is seeking 10 million from the publisher. Tokyo Metropolitan Police confirms that they sent the results of their criminal investigation to the alleged assault to Tokyo Prosecutors' Office on Apr. 6.
