Ex-teacher arrested for molesting students

Date Posted: 1998-06-20

A former 46-year old high school teacher was arrested, Thursday, on suspicion of molesting his female students. The accused denies the charges. The police claim that there is a reason to suspect that the teacher would try to go into hiding or try to destroy evidence in the case, and say thatís the reason the man was put under arrest.

The case came to light when the Board of Education dismissed the teacher after his students accused him of molesting them and the school officials decided that there was enough evidence to convict him. It took six months for the board to complete its investigation, and the police began their investigation only after reports of the incident appeared in public.

"I want to express my deepest regrets that the trust between a teacher and students has been damaged by this unfortunate incident," the principal of the school where the incident allegedly took place said upon hearing news about the teacherís arrest. A recent graduate of the high school who knew the teacher said that the man was feared by all in the school. "No one at school had the courage to say anything against that teacher," she said.

Hajime Amuro, the chairman of the Board of Education held a press conference on the day of the teacherís arrest, and stated that "I am sorry that this kind of incident has been taken place at the school where we educate our children. We must make sure that we do our best to prevent this kind of incidents in the future."
