Global Village Music and Dance Festival on tap during Golden Week

The Southeast Botanical Gardens is the host of the Global Village Music & Dance Festival, scheduled for the Golden Week, May 2 - 5 from 1 - 5 p.m.. The four-day festival is a celebration of cultures featuring an international cast of singers, musicians, and dancers representing the four continents.

Masumi Rodriguez, F.M. Okinawa radio deejay and singer/actress Maria Howell (The Color Purple and The Indiana Jones Chronicles) will co-host the event. Joining the line up of musical special guests are Acoustic M, Andre Johnson, Banda Caribe, Jay Reamey, Moonshine and Stevie &Doug.

A vast array of dance troops including the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, the Mabuhay Filipino Dancers, Caribbean Heritage Dancers, Okinawa Highlanders, Uzagaku Taiko Chinese Troupe, Umoja African-American Dancers, Kubasaki H.S. Step Dancers, Filipino Cultural Association Dancers and the Middle East Dancers are on tap to perform. The Society for Creative Anachronism will render period pieces and Scottish, German and English dances. Children can delight to the likes of Digbee, Chancey, along with American and Japanese clowns and jugglers.

For more information and tickets contact the Kadena Schilling Community Activities Center/Leisure Tours Department 634-4322. Advance tickets are 900 for adults and 450 for children. Tickets purchased at the door are 1,000 for adults and 500 for children.
