Fisherman arrested for assaulting chief

A dispute over the amount of compensation and how the money should be spent escalated into a fight between a member and the chairman of the Yonabaru Fishermen's Association.

According to Yonabaru Police, Yuuji Tamanaha, 56, a member of the Yanabaru Fishermen's Association had been discussing with the Association Chairman Tsuheyuki Sakihara, 64, about matters relating to compensation to the association for a landfill now under construction off the coast of Yonabaru Town. The two disagreed about the matters and soon the ensuing quarrel escalated into a fight.

Tamanaha then fetched an iron bar from his home, and hit the chairman over the head with the bar. The chairman was taken to a hospital and his injuries reportedly require a month of treatment. Tamanaha was arrested on the scene.
