Police arrest owner for coffee-house betting

Okinawa City police arrested the owner of an area coffee shop on April 30, after getting a tip the man had illegal betting machines in his establishment.

After an investigation, police arrived at the coffee house and arrested the owner, who lives in Gushikawa City. The authorities also confiscated 17 illegal gaming machines, 2,516,000 and arrested two female staff members, who assisted customers with their betting strategies and handed out change. Gambling for money is illegal in Japan. Those in violation of the law can face fines and even imprisonment.
