The Okinawa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. held their 1st Annual Talent & Step Show Competition on May 2, at the Kubasaki High School Auditorium. This year, ten acts were judged on the basis of their entrance, appearance, choreography, creativity, originality and audience appeal.

From the inspirational national anthem sung by Dathan Boyd to the medley and finale sung by the Delta Sisters & Friends you knew the show was well planned and orchestrated. Throughout the entire event there were various door prizes awarded which kept the audience excited and charged with anticipation for the next act and prize winner. Eleven judges from all walks of life decided the winners of the competition.

Shane Hamler-Butler, President of the chapter and program producer told Japan Update, "this is the first of we hope many programs like this. We plan on producing events that cultivate and recognize the individual talents of the youth here on Okinawa. Our children are very talented and need a medium where they can express their talent and creativity. We want to nurture and cultivate an environment where they can freely express both their talents and new ideas."

Contestant award winners in 1st place for the Step Category were STEP SQUAD, from Kubasaki High School. In the Talent Category 1st place was tied by KT-Elite dance group, and Alonzo Richards male vocalist, while 2nd place went to Chantel Pryor female vocalist, and 3rd place went to Tammy Oshiro Ryukyu dancer.
