Dance director and instructor takes center stage

Supreme ballet dancer-instructor and school director, Wakako Shimabukuro, will be featured performer at the Naha City Ballet School's first annual performance on May 9, in the Naha City Hall. The performance will take place at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are 1800 in advance, (1950 at the door) for adults and 1500 in advance, (1700 at the door) for children. Tickets are available at Japan Update call 934-5616.

A 33 member cast are set to perform which include 2 instructors and members age range from four to thirty. The children's class will perform a dance to the music entitled Twinkle Twinkle Little Star while the other beginner class will perform to Mozarts' "Waltz of Flowers."

Shimabukuro, is one of Okinawa's premier ballerinas. She began dancing in 1977 and was honored in 1987 by the Japanese Ballet Association Foundation during the first Asia Pacific Ballet contest. Since that time, she has gone on to represent Okinawa in several prominent ballet programs in mainland Japan and was a selectee by the Japan's Cultural Affairs Agency, to study at the prestigious Sasmoto School of Ballet in Tokyo.
