IE Island Resort GetawayBy: Victoria L. Moore Date Posted: 1998-04-05 Your vacation starts with a high speed, one hour, cruise to the island, on the Marine Jet Express. You can catch the express at the Marine Jet Express Office in the Tomari Port Terminal, located to the rear and immediate left of the Tomari Hotel in Naha. To locate the office go into the hotel and exit through the rear door turning to your immediate left where you will see the Marine Jet Express Office. The express makes three trips daily leaving Naha at 9:10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. It also departs IE to Naha at 10:50 a.m., 2:40 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. Normally the express fare is ¥6300 round trip and half price for children. Now this may seem a little expensive however the alternative requires traveling to Motobu Point. Your travel includes using the expressway to Nago, travel time of an additional 30 minutes to Motobu from the expressway, and ferry expense. It works out for those of you that enjoy luxurious hassle free travel arrangements and don't mind the insignificantly extra expense. The experience of riding the express is not to be missed. You are propelled on top of the water by an airplane jet that hydrofoils you to your destination. The inside of the ship is like the inside of a Leer jet with very similar amenities and accommodations. Once at port you are met by YYY Resort staff members who pleasantly whisk you away to the resort. While at the resort you can enjoy relaxing at the outdoor pool, Jacuzzi, or bathhouse. If you are into water sports take advantage of the windsurfer, ocean canoe, or snorkeling set that you can use for one hour free of charge. If your preference is land activities than by all means enjoy their bicycles, roller blades or ground golfing also free of charge for one hour. The choice is yours with excellent experienced staff to guide you. I especially enjoyed the meals. Depending on your accommodation package you can get either breakfast and dinner included with the price of the room charge, or just the breakfast package. In either case you are in for a real treat. The chef turns each meal into a virtual work of art, as appealing to the eye as it is to the pallet. With all this, including luxurious room accommodations, the one thing that really amazed me was the price. An overnight stay with round trip transportation on the Marine Jet Express costs as little as ¥15,000 per person and with the yen rate at ¥126 = $1.00 you can spend as little as $120. It is never too early to make your reservations. This month is filled with annual events that will make your stay enjoyable, entertaining and educational. On April 12, runner enthusiasts can participate or spectate during the IE Island Marathon. April 19, marks the 53rd anniversary of the Ernie Plye Memorial Ceremony and on April 25 - 31, you can enjoy the splendor of the Lily Field Festival. Look for their special rates during all American holidays including spring break, Memorial Day, the 4th of July and Labor day. Prices cut to ¥12,000 double occupancy and ¥15,000 for triple occupancy. This price is for the room only not per person however meals are not included.
